ARTISTE & PERFORMER

Snavaja Krishnan is a Bharatanatyam artiste based in Bengaluru with over 20 years of immersive training and performance experience. Known for her expressive solo work, she brings a raw, authentic energy to her dance – a language that is uniquely her own and unmistakably different.

A ‘B’ grade artiste of Doordarshan, Snavaja is a recipient of the Arunodaya Award by Nrityaangan, Mangaluru, for being recognized as the best performer at the Yuva Nrityotsava Festival 2023. She has also performed at various prestigious banners across South India like the Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, events organised by the Department of Kannada & Culture – Govt. of Karnataka, Ankura by Karnataka Nrithya Kala Parishat, Samarpan, Kanasu, etc. to name a few.

Her debut thematic production, Nidra – A Sleepless Night, explored the theme of insomnia in the digital era and was released online as a dance video. The production received wide appreciation for its fresh perspective and emotional resonance, establishing her voice as a choreographer with contemporary relevance.

Currently, Snavaja also serves as a dance instructor at educational institutes in Bengaluru, where she mentors students with a blend of tradition, creativity, and technical grounding. For Snavaja, Bharatanatyam is not just a form of dance — it’s a language of emotion, magic, and timeless storytelling.

TRAINING & BACKGROUND

Snavaja began her journey in Bharatanatyam at the tender age of 6 under the guidance of  Natya Vidushi Shilpa Nanjappa. After years of rigorous foundational training, she completed her  Gejje Pooje in 2007.

Snavaja then continued her training under Bharata Shikaram Guru Smt. Padmini Ramachandran for 9 enriching years. During this period, Snavaja participated in several of her Guru’s landmark productions, including Navarasa Gejje, Nrutyakala Mela, Dance for Donors, Darpana 2013, Lava Kusha Ramayana, etc. These experiences helped shape her understanding of ensemble work, choreography, and the nuances of stagecraft.

Following the untimely passing of Guru Padmini Ramachandran, Snavaja continued to train under Smt. Shilpa Nanjappa and completed her Arangetram in 2017, amid distinguished guests and audience.

With a strong foundation and an open, evolving approach to the artform, Snavaja continues to learn, perform, and create — always seeking ways to deepen her craft and connect with wider audiences.
